Kashmir to party after 20 long years

Srinagar: The people of Kashmir will be seeing a new year bash in the open after 20 years. There will be music, dance, comic shows and crackers at a party in Gulmarg on Thursday. This will be first big event to be happening outside hotels on a new year’s day ever since militancy set in two decades ago. “Lots of people travel out of the state for year-end celebrations, but this time we are organising the event at their backyard. It will be small, but trendy and classy event,” said Dr Amit Wanchoo, CEO of Space Communications, the event management company that is organising the show. The organisers have booked space at Gulmarg Gandola and set up a centrally-heated tent where artists from Kashmir and other states will perform. “We will be getting a musical band from Mumbai and DJs from Delhi and Chandigarh,” said Dr Wanchoo. The icing on the cake will be a cracker show. Tickets are priced at Rs300 and Rs500 and 20% of the proceeds will be donated for cancer patients.
